We assist our clients in applications for residency and citizenship as a part of their wealth management strategy.
There are three categories of residency that are available in The Bahamas:
- Annual Residence;
- Permanent Residence; and
- A Home Owner’s Card
Applicants must be of good character but the approval of any residency application is subject to the discretion of the Board of Immigration.
Annual Residence Permit
This permit is for non-Bahamians who wish to take up annual residency in The Bahamas. One of the requirements is for the applicant to indicate a commitment to either lease or purchase a home in The Bahamas. Separate application can be submitted on behalf of the applicant’s spouse and children.
Permanent Residence Permit
The permanent residency can be applied for by (i) spouse of a Bahamian after 5 years of marriage; (ii) persons born legitimately outside of The Bahamas to a Bahamian married woman; (iii) investors who are have a residence in The Bahamas at a value of B$1.5 million.
Homeowner’s Card
Non-Bahamians who own homes in The Bahamas may apply for an annual home owner’s resident card. This card entitles the owner to enter The Bahamas and reside here for as long as the validity of the card.
